Conservation of Bradlaugh Hall

Constructed in the late 19th century along Rattigan Road in Lahore, Bradlaugh Hall served as a significant venue for various leaders of India, especially those from Punjab. Erected in 1893, the hall was credited to Mr. Charles Bradlaugh, a British MP esteemed in Indian circles for his fervent advocacy of Indian self-governance.

Frequent visitors and speakers at Bradlaugh Hall included notable freedom fighters such as Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Mian Ifthikhar ud din, and Malik Barkat Ali. Despite its historical significance, the hall had fallen into disrepair and was encroached upon by surrounding residents.

In 2023, the Walled City Lahore Authority initiated preservation efforts for this iconic structure. Restoration work entails consolidating the structure, replacing rusted corrugated roofing sheets, replacing structural columns, installing a new drainage system, and clearing surrounding illegal encroachments. The restoration project is scheduled for completion in 2024, with a budget of 60 million rupees
