Transforming Communities in the Walled City of Lahore
In the Walled City of Lahore, WCLA, AKRSP, and Akhuwat not only conserve and restore buildings and homes but also build lives and restore livelihoods. Sustainable Intervention Drive (SID) partnered with these dynamic players to serve the marginalized communities in the Walled City.
About SID
SID was established in 2013 in a village in South Punjab. Our mission is to work with marginalized communities in depressed demographics, focusing on projects that are scalable, replicable, and sustainable.
Reclaiming Neighbourhoods
In 2015, SID collaborated with Akhuwat and WCLA to establish the 500th Akhuwat Microfinance Branch in Gali Surgin Singh. This partnership led to the concept of ‘Reclaiming Neighbourhoods’ , which aims to align the past, present, and future of a community to implement participatory development model to uplift neighbourhoods
Communal Hubs
We currently have three Communal Hubs functioning in collaboration with WCLA, Akhuwat, Chughtai Foundation, and other sponsors empathetic to our cause.
Communal Hub 1:
A multi-hub system, a safe haven & intervention program for the most vulnerable and high-risk population, the children & communities residing inside or in the vicinity of the red light areas. It provides a platform for integration and acceptance through a participatory development model that is raising communities to raise children and youth of inner city. The hubs include Learning Hub, Health Hub, Craft & Value Hub, Food Hub, Sports & Wellness Hub, LCC – Library & Community Center, Digital Hub, ARK, Special Needs Hub, etHub, Plantation Hub.
Communal Hub 2:
This one provides boarding, educational, and skill development facilities to the youth through a system of Cluster homes in Mochi Gate provided by the Chughtai Foundation.
Communal Hub 3:
This provides opportunities to preserve our heritage and traditions and, at the same time, provide skill training, financial literacy, and employment opportunities to the community. This is through its ‘Adopt a Heritage Home/Baithak’ campaign in Gali Surgin Singh and in the Delhi Gate area. Also, working with the youth to showcase our heritage and development of cultural marketplace as a source of income for the craftsmen of the surrounding neighbourhoods.
